Galaxy Nails

My favourite theme yet but also the most challenging so far ad I have never attempted galaxy nails before! However I am quite pleased with how these turned out and they were literally so easy to do.

Instead of using a sponge I decided to use lots of cotton buds dipped in to each nail polish and I was so glad I tried it out. I did use quite a lot of nail polishes - Orly Black Out for the base, 2 blue polishes, a yellow, pink and white and tiny bit of Models Own Juicy Jules. Then I finished off with a clear top coat and added a few extra stars with a silver pen. Just so easy!

Nail essentials

As I am currently doing a nail challenge here on my blog which means using nail polish remover on my nails everyday, I thought I would write a post on how I look after my nails.

The main thing is to keep my cuticles from going dry and also keeping my nails from breaking due to using so much nail polish remover. Also with so much nail polish on the nails you can also get ridges in the nails, so I also want to prevent that!

Soap & Glory Hand Food Hand Cream
£5.00/125ml (Boots here)
Using hand cream is a huge part of my nail care routine. I own lots of small hand creams that are dotted around my house but Soap & Glory's Hand Food is the one I apply every day after doing my makeup. Hand sanitiser then Hand Food.

This lovely scented hand cream isn't overly thick and doesn't appear to be that amazing even when applying it. But this is such a good hand cream! It really is food for the hands!
If you haven't tried this I highly recommend you try the mini size of this, which you can find in travel section of Boots.

Stylfile S-Nail File
 £3.83 (Amazon here)
For the past year I have been using a free models own multi-buffer/file that came with two nail polishes. But it is looking a little old now so I'm glad I received the Stylfile in last months She Said Beauty Box. It is a lot more sophisticated and is a really nice file. If I do get a small rip in my nails I do actually try to file it out and if my nails are getting too long, again I file them down instead of cutting them. I really find this works for me.

However I am still using the Models Own buffer to buff my nails. I really do rate buffers to remover ridges (you just have to make sure you don't do it too often or it will thin the nails) and also if you don't wear nail polish (for work etc) then using the 4 different buffers will make your nails really smooth and very shiny! I was actually amazed at how using a buffer can make your nails feel, especially when polishing them.

Also I find just buffing them quicker before applying nail polish can help the nail polish stay on the nails for a bit longer!

Champneys Cuticle Softening Nail Oil
£8.50/10ml (Boots here)
Cuticle oil is essential if you use nail polish remover a lot as it will dry out the cuticles if you are not careful. I have many cuticle oils/balms - Ciate, Neom, Sally Hansen, China Glaze and also this one by Champneys.

I decided to feature this one as it's new and I'm really impressed with the little mechanism at the top. The little button at the top actually fills up the pipette with oil and then every time to press the button it releases enough oil for each nail - how clever! So you just hover over each nail and it applies enough oil for each finger then you can just put the top back on the bottle and massage the oil into each nail/cuticle. This oil really is lovely and makes my cuticles in perfect condition.

Let me know what type of file, hand cream and cuticle oil you use!

Day 3 - Chic nails

Day 3 of the 15 Day Nail Challenge and so far I have been really enjoying the nail series and also looking at the different nails you all have come up with so far. They are all so varied and it's definitely given me lots of nail inspiration!

For chic nails I was so tempted to go Chanel inspired and do nude nails with a little pearl at the bottom of each nails. However I always play safe with nude nail polishes so decided to challenge myself! Now I'm not too sure if these nails look 'chic'... I think the gold detail would of looked perfect if it was done with a thinner pen so that it would of been more delicate - but you live and you learn! Plus I didn't have a gold pen with a thinner nib.

Baroque print nail art

But again, like yesterday, these nails do look really pretty and neat from a normal distance away. So I do think they do fall under the 'chic' theme but are more for nighttime/going out.

Herringbone pattern nails

Day 2 of the 15 Day Nail Challenge and I decided to go for an autumn print/pattern!

I actually had an image of this pattern in my head but had totally forgot that it was called Herringbone so I had to google search a million different things to discover what the print was.

I have to say it was quite rushed and done with a headache and  on 3 hours sleep! So it could have looked a lot better, though from normal eye distance away they do look really neat and quite detailed. The pattern was super easy to do - using a Sharpie I just drew on some vertical lines then added the little lines. It really didn't take any time at all.

After doing my nails I was looking though Red magazine and actually found afew Autumn 2012 pieces that were herringbone!

A little extra post today before Day 2 - Pattern Nails!

A few people have asked me how they can join in with the 15 day nail challenge if they don't have a blog. I hadn't really thought about it, however it is a little unfair to exclude readers that want to join in that don't blog.

So if you don't have a blog then uploading the image of your nails to a Photobucker or Flickr account would be best and then you can send me an email (makeupsavvy@live.co.uk) with the link along with your first name and then I can include your image link in my daily nail posts. Just remember to submit your link to me before 4pm GMT.
 _________________________________________

As for the giveaway/competition I thought I would explain a little more about it. The prize consists of four lovely Color Club Nail Polishes, a Mini Models Own Trio and the new Magic Bourjois Nail Polish Remover.

After the 15 Day Challenge has finished I will select my top 3 favourite nails from the links submitted to me throughout the challenge. I will then post the images on here for exactly a week and ask readers to vote for their favourite nails in the comment form. The most voted for nails will then win the products! So even if you just join in for a few days or even one day you still have a chance - so don't feel like you can't join in because you can't do all 15 days!

If you want to take part you can find more details and the list of themes (here).

Today's theme is pattern nails! If you want to join in make sure to tweet or email me before 4pm today.

Nail Challenge - Day 1 Bright

Day 1 of my 15 Day Nail Challenge!

If you would still like you join in then take a look at my post explaining the challenge (here) and the list of all the themes for each day.

To start off the challenge a nice easy theme of bright nails. I was tempted to go for Models Own Pink Punch as it is my favourite bright nail polish but I have already swatched it many times on Makeup Savvy so decided to go for two bright pastel shades.

The first is Pixi Glow Tinker Bell Fairytale nail polish (ASOS - here) that is a lot more neon looking in real life - think Pepto-Bismol pink. Which was very kindly given to be by Tanzina (who writes a blog at Makeup A to Z) as she found it didn't go with her skin tone. For the type of shade it is, this really does apply lovely and not at all streaky or thick.

nail challenge

The other polish I decided to go for is a newly purchased Color Club nail polish called Blue-ming that I am in love with. The shade is a lovely bright blue pastel creme shade that applies perfectly. A new favourite pastel shade I think!

Here are the other beauty bloggers that took up the nail challenge today with some really lovely bright nails. Make sure to have a look!

New Dove Maximum Protection deodorant

Before you read this post I have a little confession to make. About a month ago now I saw quite a few beauty bloggers reviewing this particular deodorant and in my head I thought 'really a deodorant on a beauty blog, how boring!'

But now I hold my hands up and admit I was wrong to think that way because I fully understand why other bloggers wanted to mention this product because the deodorant is in fact a very good product!

Though I will admit the topic of everyday items such as deodorant, toothpaste, dental floss, hand soap and so on is pretty bland so I will try to keep this short and sweet.

The Dove Maximum Protection Deodorant Cream (Boots - here) is priced more highly than your average deodorant at £5.30 though only a little is needed and not very often and this really is superior to other deodorants. Let me explain... this product is actually a 48 hour protection deodorant which is best applied at night before sleep. You just need two clicks of the deodorant and the cream soaks into the armpits and literally feels as if you haven't applied anything. Then in the morning (even after showering!) you don't need to re-apply deodorant.

DSC_0532

What really has impressed me with this deodorant is the lack of dampness through the day. As a person that doesn't overly sweat I do just tend to feel a bit damp under my arms with normal spray deodorants when I'm busy so I did just re-apply throughout the day. But with this it's just totally dry - no sweat at all! Also I really like the feeling of there being no product on the skin of my under arms. I think it's also worth mentioning that I have always disliked roll-on or cream deodorants because of that tacky/sticky feeling you seem to get, so I have always used sprays, up until now that is.

Actually it feels a little odd not applying deodorant that often because I'm just so use to spraying a few times each day. But there is literally no need to with this.

Also I like the fresh delicate scent of the pomegranate & lemon and I'm not missing choking when I use to over spray my normal aerosol deodorant!

If you want really good protection I really do recommend this - you won't be disappointed.
