You may need to sit down for this! The First Unretouched Makeup Ad

Oh my, oh my how a non-retouched ad was needed in the photo shopped world we currently live in!

It really seems like Make Up For Ever has actually listened and produced the first untouched ad - these women have cheekbones, pores and dare I even say, a bit of shine on there foreheads and fuzz on there arms!

Make Up For Ever have launched 4 different adverts of four women all taking self-portraits of themselves on there phones to advertise the MUFE HD line of products.

Now I haven't tried any of the products from the HD range myself but I know that they are definitely raved about in the beauty world. So maybe after seeing the adverts in person I will be swayed to try the HD foundation. Well it's not like they are hiding anything in there adverts now is it!

The MUFE HD no retouch micro website should be up and running next week - which will include exclusive videos untouched and in HD plus a great magnifying tool to zoom into the skin!

Either way this is just truly refreshing to see and hopefully something we will see more and more brands doing in the future!

  1. The first girl looks like Blake Lively! All these ladies are gorgeous, glad they haven't touched them up.

  2. Half of the time it's not even about retouching as such - more about careful lighting, angles and makeup artistry, so I'm not that fussed.

Ultimately ads are there to sell, and most consumers seem to be up to date now - they know that what we see in the magazine has been edited to make the product more appealing. So yeah. Cute gimmick, I guess?

  5. Ah...I do like ads that's not retouched. I was touched by a MUA at Nars that none of their campaign photos were retouched too - it was definitely possible to see the pores on the model's face.

Quite refreshing. Now if they can get rid of those silly false lashes for mascara ads!

  6. The models used are still absolutely gorgeous! They look edited to me; I want to see them with imperfections haha x

  7. Great concept, they all like like they'd have perfect skin anyhow haha, though it definitely has me interested in the mufe hd foundation :)

  8. I love this, they look great but not so "done" as models usually do in ads. Remember how weird Zooey Deschanel looked in those Rimmel mascara ads? It just goes too far.

  10. Such a breath of fresh air!

The usual make-up ads are so annoying.
It angers me every time there's a mascara advert on tele. So so so so fake its false advertising in my eyes.

  11. Nice! It is still professional and show the products favourably. When will companies understand that they can still sell the product (maybe even more?) with natural pictures? Tumbs up MUFE!

  14. Oh, it's so nice to see models with real faces, rather than the creepy, poreless, alien-like celeb mugs we're used to seeing in magazines! x

  15. Those look totally dine unretouched, I can't tell the difference really. The first girl's armpit/arm area looks a bit weird, but besides that, their faces (which is what the point of this ad is) looks flawless. I love MUFE products, their foundations are beautiful.

  16. For me this is nothing more than a makeup stunt.

  17. I love the title! ahaha :) anyway I think that if your skin is not bad and if you wear makeup you don't need any photoshop... my skin is not perfect but in my pics it looks awesome thanks to makeup and light :)

  18. I like the concept and I really would like to see more of this type of honesty in the beauty world - however, the ever present cynic in me also thinks that this is an excellent way of gaining some publicity, which I suppose is exactly what an advert is for!

  19. Love these ads! Think it's a really good marketing concept too, sucked me right in anyway :)

  20. I think this is just a clever bit of marketing picking up on the consumer's frustrations with photoshopping... And it's a perfect way to sell something like HD foundation anyway, to market it as so good it doesn't need 'shopping.

At the end of the day, they will have very carefully selected models with beautiful skin that photograph practically flawlessly with no makeup on... Even though it's not photoshopped, the advert still doesn't represent the experience of the average consumer.

  21. I'm glad they look natural, no more spider leg eyelashes or ridiculously bold color on plastic skin. I don't understand why companies haven't done this sooner, doesn't it show off how great the makeup is in a way a computer rendering never could?

I don't really like the photos though. The one with the blond works because you can see the camera she's holding, but the others just have an awkward superman armpit pose. Weird.

For me this isn't so much of a "wow! how progressive and fresh!" as "well, it's about time they caught up with the reality of the situation, Photoshop is so 6 years ago."

  22. Wow, this is a great campaign. I really like the MUFE HD foundation and think that these adds will definitely drive up sales of the product.

  24. I'm all for seeing more of this type of advertising. It definitely "sells" the products to me more. Great post- Thanks:-)

  25. Great adverts, but not too keen on the poses. Beautiful girls though, why they would have been edited anyway is beyond me!! xx

  26. How do we know they definitely aren't re-touched?

  27. the thing is, the make-up in these adverts actually looks a lot better than the make-up in retouched adverts! such a nice change :)

  30. I think it's a good thing definitely. You can certainly tell the difference the photoshopped adverts always look too perfect. It's hard to describe but definitely kudos to this company for deciding to go photoshop free.

  31. omg i saw this ad yesterday in "instyle".
I'm so happy, I think more people need to do the same. It especially puts more attention on photographers and less on the editors that feel the need to "fix everything"

  32. forgot to add - i love the idea of none/less Photoshop and editing but i don't like the poses or the pictures. Just because it's not photoshopped doesn't mean the picture has to look like they took it themselves.
