Keeping Winter at Bay - Beauty Edit

Right about now, come the first few months of the year I start to get sick of Winter. From the lack of sunshine and daylight hours to the bitter coldness that only February and March seem to bring to the UK.

However, I've always been determined to not let the weather or how I feel about it show, especially when it comes to my skin and the makeup I wear. When rainy bleak days are upon us in the depth of Winter I like to seek out light yet effective makeup and maintain my glow focused skincare routine. In the first part of this post discover the main players in my winter makeup bag.

Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand (£29 here)
While I love powder highlighters in summertime there's something dewier and radiance enhancing about a liquid or cream highlighters come the colder months. My go-to for highlighting the high points of the face is Charlotte Tilbury's Beauty Light Wand which gives a luminous, soft-focus of rose gold perfection that suits all skin tones perfectly. On my pale complexion, this dreamy highlighter makes my skin glow and requires little to no blending due to the sponge applicator, making it perfect for makeup in a rush or anyone that is new to highlighting.

Soap & Glory Glow All Out Luminizing Face Powder (£11 here)
Another complexion enhancing product I love to use to keep sallow winter skin at bay is this fairly inexpensive compact from Soap & Glory. I discovered this product by chance in a 'gift with purchase' set and since then it has seen a lot of love. The fine subtle apricot luminizing face powder can be applied all over the face, how I like to use it, with a light hand to boost the complexion without a trace of glitter or shimmer, or it can be built up on the cheeks as a subtle blusher. If you are looking for a natural glow that won't look like makeup on the skin then this is a drugstore buy worth picking up.

It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara (£19 here)
Mascara seems a bit of an odd one to include, over say a radiant enhancing cream blush or lip product, but for me, a fresh makeup look in winter isn't without wide awake looking eyes. And that can only be achieved with a good mascara! Before discovering this mascara, which I received a small sample tube of, used once and then bought full-size, I was devoted to Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, which although I still love is more volumising and less lengthening making it a better PM mascara.

But for every day It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara really does it all; volumising, lifting and lengthening the lashes in practically one coat, all with zero clumps. I put this down to the formula as it's neither too wet or too dry but just right. Really, the effects are just amazing! It's not often I'm amazed by a mascara but this truly lives up to its name!

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam (£15 here)
Another easy to use foolproof product that almost feels like a touch of Spring in my makeup bag is one of the Glossier Cloud Paints in Beam. This creamy peach shade applies with ease using the fingertips to lightly blend within seconds of application. The results? A healthy flushed-from-within glow that looks beyond natural and youthful.

This is the blush I turn to over all others in my collection when I want my skin to look awake and a touch of this cream blush achieves that with ease. You can receive 10% off your first Glossier order here
