Unsung Beauty Heroes: Underrated Products in my Beauty Routine

When talking beauty favourites it's easy to go with the grain, sharing more of what's new in and popular. But what about the stable products you know you can rely on. They may not be new or in glossy magazines anymore but they still deserve praise.

So I took a gander over my embarrassingly extensive beauty collection and selected the products that jumped out at me. The ones I never stash at the back of a drawer or forget I love. The ones that do their job well but make me slightly ashamed that they haven't received much coverage on Makeup Savvy.

So without further ado meet five personal beauty favourites that truly are unsung heroes...

this works Perfect Legs Skin Miracle  £31.45 (currently on sale!)
For the past few summers, this has truly been a saviour to me. As a pale skinned girl I often feel like my limbs are just too white, especially when it comes to getting them out. However this ultra easy to use wash off-tint totally remedies that situation for me! Compared to high street equivalents this is poles apart - think non-streaky, no-glitter and just the right shade for pale to medium skin tones. It also delivers on it's combating of skin imperfection claims by diffusing scarring and cellulite for a much more flattering finish.. oh, and it doesn't sweat off or transfer onto clothes! Not only do I use this on my legs as I'm heading out of the door but also on my arms and even my chest. It also seems to be a never ending product as I've used it for the best part of half a year for a few years now and I've yet to feel like I'm nearing the end of it. This really is a miracle worker of a product!

4711 Original Ea De Cologne £6.49
Although 4711 is without a doubt a timeless classic, it's still around after 200 years after all, I feel the hype around it has dulled down so much so that it's been placed next to the likes of SO...? fragrance mists in Boots. Basically meaning unless you're already a fan of the scent you're pretty unlikely to try it/give it a chance. However, it truly is a wonderful fragrance that's aquatic and citrus and a perfectly refreshing scent to wear on hot summer days. This really is a scent I always come back to and know I will purchase for however long it stays around, which is hopefully for another hundred years at least! If you love clean citrus type scents in summer I highly suggest seeking out a tester of 4711 in Boots to see if you like it. Oh, and did I mention it's the cheapest fragrance around!

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow £4.79
With constant new releases from drugstore beauty brands, more and more core products are getting overlooked I've found. This I believe has happened to Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadow range which are amazing dupes for MAC Paint Pots. They simply don't get mentioned on blogs anymore or in mainstream beauty.... but they totally should as they are one of Maybelline's best products. Thankfully these solid yet creamy eyeshadow pots haven't been overlooked in my own beauty collection and still get used on a weekly basis. I have quite the collection but the shade I can't get enough of is Pink Gold as it's simply the most stunning foiled rose gold shade on the lids... and as the name suggests, it lasts. Another true favourite and again highly foiled is On and On Bronze, which I don't think anyone could dislike! I also love that although creamy in texture they do not dry out in the pot unlike MAC Paint Pots meaning they really do last.

Max Factor Face Finity All Day Primer £10.99
I really wrote an entire blog post on this Primer which you can read here if you like. I was compelled to do so because it truly is the best primer I've come across for keeping makeup in place all day, especially on oily skin. It really has been a game changer for me. But again it's one of Max Factors older products that I really haven't seen on blogs and definitely not in any glossy magazines for years... yet this stuff is amazing and deserves talking about! It's a simple product that does its job well... so there isn't much else to say about it, other than buy it if you have a problem with makeup fading off the skin throughout the day.

Cloud 9 Magical Quick Dry Potion £7.50
If I was going to write a blog post about the products I couldn't live without then this would make the cut! Yes, it doesn't look like much, although the bio-phase formula is a bit magical this stuff seriously works wonders. Liberally sprayed onto damp hair I've found this reduces air-drying time by half and makes hair drying with a hairdryer a 5-minute job. It also works as heat protection spray so it can also be used on dry hair, without leaving any kind of residue or texture behind. I use this every time I wash my hair and have done for the past 2 years and simply couldn't love it more. Side note - I don't buy the full size because it's pricey but also because the 50ml size lasts around 6-8 months and I always take it on holiday with me. I've also tried similar products to find a cheaper alternative but nothing has compared to it!
