Top 5 All Time Favourite Mascaras

best_mascaras

Yesterday I read a great blog post on Glam Up Everyday (here) where Gillian listed her all time favourite mascaras, which happened to include two of my favourites. So I thought I would slightly steal her great idea and post my own favourite mascaras!

Now mascaras can be quite a personal thing so before I get into my favourites I feel I should tell you what I look for in a perfect mascara. The main thing I ask from a mascara is that it is volumising (especially at the base of the lashes) and then if possible I like them not to be clumpy and more fanned out at the end of the lashes. I also love true black mascaras and I find ones that aren't too 'wet' to be the best. So my top 5 mascaras pretty much encompass all of these things pretty much!

17 Wild Curls Mascara
Boots - £6.29 here
The 17 Wild Curls Mascara in Wildest Black has to be my all time favourite high street mascara. I find this really adds volume to the base of the lashes and can be really wiggled about to create thick looking lashes with the first coat, then the second coat really gives a fanned out effect. What I also love about this mascara is you can add a little extra to the outside corners which really gives a feline look to the eyes. Will always re-purchase this!

No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara
Boots - £11.00 here
No7 have upped the price of this in recent years however I still think this is a great mascara for the price as the flexible plastic wand has three types of brushes on it which actually isn't a gimmick at all! The main comb side is great for getting product onto the lashes and getting into the base to create volume, then the fine comb side is great for sweeping any clumps out and separating the lashes. Then finally the spiky tip of the wand if perfect for reaching tiny lashes and also doing the bottom lashes with. This is such a well thought out mascara that really does give exceptional definition!

Blink & Go Mascara
Cannot find online - £12.95
I received this mascara in a Glossy Box back in December 2011! Since then I have gone on to re-purchase it online but now it seems to have disappeared off the face of the internet... though you never know you may be able to find this on eBay and the like. This mascara for me is a great every day mascara. It does give great volume at the base which I love but also fans out the lashes much like the 17 Wild Curls mascara. The only thing I can fault is that it isn't that waterproof... however I don't generally like waterproof formulas so that is probably a good thing for me.

ModelCo Fibre Lash Brush-on False Lashes
Amazon UK - £22.93 here
When it comes to expensive mascaras I really want them to give me that false lash effect so my eyes really stand out and this is an absolute perfect one for that! Now unlike the YSL Faux Cils, which I will get to, this is that bit more dramatic but also more of a faff to use, but if you want amazing eyelashes then it is very much worth the effort. The mascara comes with two tubes - one standard black mascara and also a tube of fibres which you brush on to the lashes and then apply the mascara again. This creates false looking eyelashes which can look amazing. However this won't work well on short eyelashes as it will just make them look clumpy and also cannot be used with contact lenses in as there is a risk of the nylon fibres falling into the eyes and getting behind the contact lens

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara
Boots - £23.50 here
YSL Faux Cils is without a doubt my favourite mascara ever however I don't often indulge myself as it dries up within 2 months whether you use it all the time or just for special occasions. Yet I still do re-purchase this for special occasions such as going on holdiday or around Christmas time as the effects of this are like no other mascara. It is just such a shame that the formula dries up so quick. But trust me if you try this you will get hooked on it!

What type of mascaras do you go for and what is your BEST ever mascara?

Fee xo.
