A Summer Makeup Update with Boots

This post is an advertised collaboration with Boots but all thoughts are my own

With a new season, like my wardrobe, I enjoy switching up my makeup bag. My favourite time of year to do this is Summer, I mean if there's a time to get experimental and fun with makeup then it's summer, right? So today I thought I would walk you through the makeup products from Boots I've been adding into my summer makeup routine along with a summer perfume ideal for everyday use and a nail polish I know I will be wearing all summer long!

First up, I want to focus on skincare as summer isn't a time to be neglecting your skin. I personally do however like to go lighter on products with a more simplistic skincare routine with lightweight formulas. Which is why I've just added e.l.f Beauty Shield Vitamin C Pollution Prevention Serum to the first step of my skincare routine.

This Vitamin C serum while beyond lightweight, it has an almost water-like consistency to it, is importantly hydrating, helping skin feel comfortable throughout the day and creating a fresh smooth base for makeup. Also as it contains some key antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Pomegranate Extract, the serum helps to brighten skin tone and maintain a healthy glow.

Simply a really easy to use skin care product suitable for all skin types that I've already noticed making a difference to how my skin is looking and acting.

Onto makeup now, with eyes first, as I always add a new eyeshadow palette to my every growing collection come the start of summer. There's just something about being obsessed with one eyeshadow palette and using it all summer long for all different looks. My go-to palette this year is the stunning Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette, again from e.l.f, and includes 10 perfectly curated rose gold nude shades in a range of matte and shimmer finishes.

This inexpensive palette comes in at only £10, pretty amazing as the formulation and pigmentation is spot on. Of course, this is nothing bold however I do personally love neutral yet smoky makeup and these shades are perfect for that. Although if you did have a festival or holiday books this summer you could always add glitter makeup on top of any eye look you create and it would really make the eyes pop!

Come warmer weather I like to be as minimal as I can with the base makeup I wear, think sheer coverage foundation paired with a good concealer or simply bare skin on really hot days. However, I can never forgo highlighter! This is a step I never leave out and really think makes a difference to the overall appearance of the skin, making the face look more defined and all round glowy, in the right places, mind.

The highlighter I've added into my makeup bag this summer is actually a palette which offers just the right amount of choice and is all you need! The palette I'm talking about is the Sleek Highlighter Palette in Solstice, which I know is a go-to highlighting product for many, especially come summer!

Containing two baked powders and two silky cream formulas this is a palette that gives different options and the ability to layer to give an intense highlighted finish to the skin along with an application that will last all day. The pigmentation of all four highlighter shades is also beyond what I ever imagined - really very stunning! An amazing highlighter palette for both summer and holiday makeup!

Lastly, to finish off my summer makeup look there has to always be lipstick. Whatever the weather I can't be without some kind of colour on my lips, albeit it's generally a nude.

Let me introduce to you my new go-to nude this summer, Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Simply Nude. This is a lovely classic nude shade that will suit everyone and goes with all makeup looks. Yes, it's safe but I love when a brand does a nude shade well and Max Factor has certainly ticked that box with Simply Nude.

As well as being the perfect nude, the formula feels creamy on the lips yet lasts really well and is neither matte nor glossy which I think is perfect for summer as glossy can be too sticky and melt off and mattes can simply look too flat against glowy skin. So this is a nice finish that makes the lips look hydrated and healthy. I'm thoroughly pleased with this new addition to my summer makeup routine.

When updating my summer makeup bag a new fragrance is simply a must. I simply love how scent can remind you and take you straight back to a certain event or summer so I always opt for someone I know I will love and will use daily.

This summers fragrance is Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Bloom which has come at just the right time as I've just got through using the original scent which is heavier and more akin to an evening scent.

Flowerbomb Bloom while still having a lot of the same notes as Flowerbomb, still very floral, is fresher, airy and more feminine. Think the smell of a full bouquet of every flower you can imagine! Basically, it's the kind of fragrance that when you spritz it on you feel happier and ready to embrace summer - cliche I know, but it truly is a fragrance that captures summer and one anyone that loves floral scents will adore.

I just know this will be the fragrance I reach for all summer long, especially on rainy days to cheer me up!

Lastly, a summer makeup update wouldn't feel right without at least one new nail polish! As you may already know Essie is my go-to nail brand as their formulas and shades are just perfect. So I'm already loving using Essie Nail Polish Sunday Funday! This is a bright tangerine coral with a subtle shimmer to it, the kind of shade that warms up any skin tone and really shows off a tan.

As with all Essie nail polishes, the application is smooth and easy and it's simply a shade perfect for both fingers and toes. It certainly screams summer!

I'd love to know how like to change up your own summer makeup bag and if you love the look of any of the products I've recently added to my own summer routine.

Fee xo.
