Coming Up Roses: The £9 Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner Alternative

For the last few years The Body Shop has been at the top of their game when it comes to skincare; going from a store that was known solely for their bath products to one that prides themselves on excellent skincare.

With a steady stream of fresh products, I was eager to try something new after loving the recent additions to the Drops of Youth range (see my review here). In particular The Body Shop British Rose Petal-Soft Gel Toner, which instantly reminded me of the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner that I've always lusted over but avoided due to the hefty £34 price. However, if you do want to marvel at its beautiful and see how it fares against this toner you can check out Pint Sized Beauty's review of it here!

The reason for my interest in rose toners is that they are much more complex and softening to the skin than traditional rose water toners. Making them ideal to use through the colder months and if you have dry skin.

Although I don't have dry skin I am often wanting hydration after using an astringent clay mask, to make my skin feel comfortable, fresh and balanced. Though this specific toner is also perfect for autumn/winter am/pm daily use on normal to dry skin after cleansing and before moisturising to add a good amount of hydration into the skin.

How to use
After cleansing soak a few drops of the toner into a cotton pad and sweep over the face and neck. This removes any excess cleanser and makeup residue that has been left behind, leaving the skin hydrated and fresh feeling.

With a light rose scent and containing no alcohol The Body Shop British Rose Petal-Soft Gel Toner is a wonderfully gentle and enjoyable product to use, especially in the evening to add extra hydrating into your skincare routine without any heaviness or excess product feel to the skin. I've also been enjoying the fresh feeling of the gel toner on a cotton pad which leaves the skin feeling soothed and refreshed and then the benefits of softer feeling skin the next morning.

Although I can't personally compare this to the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner as I haven't tried it, I can say that these two products look very similar indeed. Both being exceptionally nourishing and gentle and resulting in noticeably smoother skin. Of course the main difference is that the Fresh Rose Facial Toner contains visible rose petals, which are for aesthetics more than anything else, were as The Body Shop Rose Toner contains much smaller rose petal pieces. Another difference is with the two formulas however I have to say I think I much prefer to use a light gel toner, which this is, as it feels no different on the skin but gives better control when applying it to a face pad.

Overall this is one lovely toner that effectively hydrates and softens the skin. A perfect product addition to most autumn/winter skincare routines that rivals the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner I think!
