Transitional Autumn Skincare Routine | AD

With Autumn soon upon us now feels the right time to reassess my skincare routine; switching up products for new ones to better suit my skin needs as the weather turns colder.

Much like a change of wardrobe to suit a new season I truly believe our skin requires the same attention to detail. I personally find my own skin, which is on the oily side during summer, becomes dehydrated without a solid skincare routine in place. Below you will find exactly how I’ve been tailoring my skincare routine for the upcoming weather with the help of some wonderful season-appropriate skincare products from Very,  along with some practical tips on how you can keep skin changes due to the colder weather at bay.

Double Cleansing into the Colder Months

For me, the basis of a good skincare routine is cleansing, or should that be thoroughly cleansing? You see over the years I’ve realised that when you double cleanse with the right products your skin is guaranteed to thank you for it.

So whenever I’m transitioning my skincare for a new season my mind goes to what type of cleansers will suit my skin best in conjunction with the temperature change. The basic principle is cleansing with an oil-based cleanser first to remove makeup and excess oil, followed by a lighter gel or foamer cleanser to ensure all traces of the first cleanser and excess makeup has been removed.

Come Autumn I want a heavier feeling cleanser that will leave my skin feeling nourished yet clean, so discovering the Elemis Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter was a real joy. This luxurious feeling cleansing butter, that’s lighter than a balm in texture yet on the skin melts away makeup in seconds, feels the perfect cleanser to massage over the skin after a long day. I’ve also been enjoying the fact that when massaged the cleansing butter into the skin it gives a creamy cast which almost acts as a guide colour to ensure you have massaged it over every part of the face, something you simply don't get with an oil-based balm cleanser - not a cleanser essential but a little hidden extra.

The cleansing butter also acts as a bit of a 2-in-1 product as it contains pumpkin which is a natural source of AHA, meaning the formula will gently remove dead skin cells without the need to manually exfoliate which has a tendency to be too harsh. This is ideal if you don’t have the time or inclination to exfoliate with other products or if like me you simply prefer a paired back skincare routine that consists of minimal products.

I know I can always rely on Elemis products, especially when it comes to skincare, but the Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter really has impressed me and with the light but nourishing buttery formula along with the pumpkin orange packaging that has already fit into my Autumn skincare routine perfectly.

As for the perfect follow-up cleanser, I simply can’t get enough of the Emma Hardie Moringa Light Cleansing Gel. With the cult classic Moringa Cleansing Balm being my all-time favourite cleanser for Winter I was already expecting good things from this lighter gel cleanser but I wasn’t expecting it to be as lightweight yet highly effective as it was!

Fans of the Emma Hardie Moringa range can expect the same wonderful floral scent that really brightens up the senses while remaining light and fresh. And with a wonderfully lightweight and fresh feeling formula to match - it feels as light as water on the skin! I find this to be the ideal product to 2nd cleanse with as it leaves my skin most importantly clean and also plump and comfortable. It has also become my morning cleanser due to the uplifting scent and how quick and easy it is to cleanse with. Another wonderful product that suits this time of year perfectly.

A Moisturiser with a Glow-up

Onto moisturiser next, which is equally as important for the skin, especially as the skin will endure varying conditions come Autumn due to colder outdoor temperatures and warmer indoor temperatures as we switch on the central heating. This can wreak havoc with all skin types making the skin dehydrated and dull. So a light but nourishing moisturiser with a boost or glow is my favourite come the latter seasons of the year.

This is where the Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser comes in, which again is another multipurpose product ideal if you are looking for a quicker paired back routine, especially come darker mornings.

Not only is this moisturiser glow enhancing being formulated with an energising blend of Kombucha and Fermented Ginger to help brighten and illuminate but it also works as a primer base and even a subtle glowy highlight when dabbed lightly on top of makeup.

While the Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser comes out with a tint this doesn’t translate onto the skin being completely sheer but with a wonderful subtle glow that really does add radiance when your skin is lacking it.

As someone that has struggled to find a lightweight but nourishing everyday face cream with that added glow, I’m delighted with this product, it truly ticks a lot of boxes, even down to the packaging being a dropper-style application rather than a jar that can harbour bacteria over time.

The Essential Product

Lastly, a skincare product that is a true all-year-round essential. Yes, I’m talking about SPF. Sunscreen has been proven to be the best way to prevent premature skin ageing and of course protects you from skin cancer. I find once you get used to incorporating it into your daily skincare routine you never go back. So I’ve personally tried a whole range of facial sunscreens, but for the past few years, I’ve come back to the REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30.

While mineral sunscreens do require working into the skin a little more to remove any white cast I find the fact they are mineral-based gives more of a physical barrier over the skin compared to other sunscreens, which is perfect for this time of year when the sun can appear later in the day, hours after application.

For me the REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF is simply a good all-rounder, working on all skin types and feeling very natural on the skin with a light herbal scent and a nourishing formula that is far from greasy yet feels nourishing.

This sunscreen also boasts being mattifying which it totally lives up to making it ideal for under makeup.

The Extras

As I mentioned these days I like to keep my skincare routine fairly paired back however there are a few skincare routine essentials such as a serum and eye cream that I also love to include, which is where the Very Skincare Hub comes in handy as all the key skincare essentials are in one place meaning you can look through their product range without scouring through hundreds of face masks and treatment type products. Really handy if you want a quick browse to pick up some new skincare bits.

I would love to know how you update your skincare routine for a new season, in particular, Autumn as we are fast approaching it!

As always many thanks for reading and supporting my content,
