Beauty Product Pairings That Work Better Together

Makeup pairing is something we all tend to do, whether it's lipstick combinations, pairing base products together for a dream combination or even double masking with formulas that complement each other.

We know they work and will go back to them time and time again, they may even be a part of our everyday routine, but the thing is we don't tend to share these perfect pairings with others... until now that is! While I have a few amazing beauty products pairings to share I'd love to know your own favourite combinations from makeup to skincare. If you have any be sure to let me know in the comments!

FOR A FLAWLESS BASE

Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer (£34.00 here)  + Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (£32.00 here

Most of the time I find a hydrated base is what creates a flawless finish to the skin once foundation is applied. This is because there's simply no dry patches for foundation to cling to just a smooth well-hydrated base. However applying rich skincare especially if you have oily or combination skin to achieve such a base can be a huge no-no as it can lead to breakouts, cause foundation to separate on the skin throughout the day and simply not stay on for as long. Which is why I like to take care of any dry patches with exfoliation and create that smooth hydrated base I'm after with a certain primer. The primer in question is Illamasqua's Hydra Veil Primer and is like nothing else I own, being a clear jelly consistency that smoothes over the skin with a refreshing gel texture and drying within seconds. While the primer adds a dose of hydration to the top layer of the skin it also reduces the appearance of fine lines.

This, when applied under or even with Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is a total dream! I find what is a lovely blendable foundation to begin with looks utterly flawless when paired with Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer. I would say the effect is like the foundation is melting into the skin as it's applied, appearing untraceable but with the coverage still there.
However, any hydrating or gel/serum based foundations whether high end or drugstore will work in a similar way when paired with this primer for amazing flawless results!

FOR PLUMPER DEFINED LIPS

NIOD Lip Bio-Lipid Concentrate (£25.00 here) + Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk (£16.00 here)

In the eight years I've been beauty blogging I've seen many lip plumpers come and go and while some of them do actually work they aren't something that slots into a daily beauty routine with ease, mainly as they are a bit of a faff and time-consuming. However, a plumping serum that you apply to your lips I can do, especially as you can leave it to work while you do your makeup. The serum I'm talking about is one from NIOD, an advanced science-based skincare brand with some amazing products. Unlike plumping lip glosses that slightly aggravate the lips to create a plumped effect, the Lip Bio-Lipid Concentrate works with bio-peptide complexes and hyaluronic acid to boost the appearance of lip colour, volume and texture and in fact increases the look of lip volume while helping to sustain hydration with an increase of + 50.6% even 20 hours after application. This really is some potent stuff that provides long-lasting results without harming the lips.

However, the perfect pairing is made once the NIOD Lip Bio-Lipid Concentrate has got to work and the lips are feeling plumper, smoother and hydrated. That's when I automatically reach for Charlotte Tilbury's Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, a shade that matches most lip colours to basically cheat the natural lip line. Not only is the lip liner creamy yet long lasting, keeping lipsticks on for longer but it can be used to accentuate the lip line to give much fuller looking lips. I also love that this lip liner is totally foolproof as it blends into the natural lip colour brilliantly. A perfect combination for dramatically plumper lips in minutes!

FOR STAY ALL DAY EYES

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Eyeshadows (£5.99 here) + Makeup Geek Foil Eyeshadows (£7.95 here)

While a lot of eye primers work well, I've found there's nothing quite like a cream eyeshadow base to keep eyeshadows looking vibrant and crease-free all day long. Cream eyeshadows especially help shimmer shades to appear richer and smoother on the lids which is why I love to pair a shimmer shade from the Maybelline Color Tattoo range with a Foil Eyeshadow from Makeup Geek. Not only does this bring out the pigments in the Makeup Geek eyeshadows making them pop on the eyes but this pairing is truly long lasting, so much so I have to use waterproof eye makeup remover to remove it at the end of the day!

Maybelline Colour Tattoos can also be used with any other shimmer or foil eyeshadows especially loose pigments and highly pigmented pressed eyeshadow shades especially from Urban Decay, Makeup Revolution and Kiko.

A few more beauty product pairings:

  • The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (£6.25 here) + Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack (£18 here) After such intensive exfoliation the skin loves this soothing Glossier face mask.

  • Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow (£23.00 here) + Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (£16.00 here) The best long lasting glitter eyeshadow there is paired with an eyeliner that goes on totally opaque!

  • Pixi Glow Tonic (£24.00 here) + The Body Shop SPF (£17.00 here) While this isn't a pairing I use together you can't have a glycolic based product without protecting the skin with a high SPF. This one is beyond lightweight and works great as a base for makeup.

Let me know if you have your own product pairings below, I'd love to hear about them!

Fee xo.
