Christmas Decoration Ideas on a Budget

When it comes to getting excited about Christmas nothing quite excites me more than decorating my home. With all homeware stores coming out with amazing new Christmas decorations each year it can be all little overwhelming where to shop and what to go for, especially if you don't want to spend a lot!

Which is why I thought I'd write a rundown of my favourite homeware stores for budget Christmas decorations, whilst also sharing what a few bits and bobs I've picked up this year. I also thought it would be nice to share the DIY decorations I've made for the past five Christmases.

Budget-friendly homeware stores

MATALAN
For the past few years, I've made a trip especially to Matalan to eye up their Christmas range and to pick up a few things. I haven't been this Christmas, yet, but having had a look online I've already spotted quite a few things I will be getting. Matalan is good value in general but even more so with their Christmas decor and decorations. I simply find them really good quality, especially for pretty baubles and light up ornaments.

THE RANGE
Another shop I cannot resist at Christmas is The Range. Again incredible value all round, even more so than Matalan for art/frames and lighting, and just really good quality. For me, The Range is an amazing place to pick up baubles as they have so so many in lots of different styles. They also do faux flowers and foliage really well all year round and always add a few seasonal designs to their range - I can't get over how pretty the above gold glitter leaves are (£2.99 each)!

HOMESENSE/TK MAXX
If you are looking for extra special decorations and want a luxury feel to your home at Christmas but without the cost I highly recommend Homesense. It's simply a Santa's grotto of amazing Christmas ornaments and unique baubles. You are also sure to pick up something unique as they only have a few of each item! I've picked up some amazing novelty Christmas tree decorations (costing no more than £4) over the years which I know I will always treasure. Homesense is also the place to pick up really nice Christmas card sets from.

OTHER BUDGET STORES
For real budget items, I have always found both Home Bargains and Poundland to be amazing! Much like with Matalan I take a trip especially to Home Bargain and always end up with a trolley full of decoration and even gifts (they do really nice homeware and stationery). Other stores worth a visit include - Hema, Primark and Wilko.

EBAY
Every year I find myself picking up a few items from eBay really cheap! A few years ago it was this incredibly cheap wooden stamp set (£2.90), last year it was some stunning mercury glass bauble lights (£9.99) and this year I've so far picked up an indoor/outdoor large star fairy light curtain for only £10.95 and an inexpensive Christmas Countdown Sign (seen above, £1.99) which I love!

eBay is also great for buying larger amounts of what a lot of high street stores stock but for the same price. A good example of this is butchers string to wrap around gifts. Tesco and Asda sell it but in such small amounts, however, you can find endless listings on eBay for much larger amounts for a similar price (you can pick up 30m for only £2.50 here). The same goes for Christmas washi tapes and gift tags.

Get Crafty

Lastly, I wanted to share with you one of my favourite DIY projects I like to do each Christmas as it's a great way to say money on decorations!

As you can see this is a simple DIY for 3D snowflakes which are made out of paper and secured with either staples or sellotape... so no cost at all! You can find the video tutorial I originally used HERE but you should find it's that easy that you will remember how to create them time and time again. I like to make them in small and large sizes using different sized paper, hanging them at different lengths from the ceiling using clear nylon thread or string. These look really effective I think and can jazz up an non decorated corner really well.

I hope I've given you with a few shopping suggestions and budget tips here.

Let me know if you are going to make the 3D snowflakes!

Fee xo.
