A New Direction for 2011...

2010 has been an okay year...nothing amazing has happened other than moving house. But I really do want to change things in 2011.

I definitely want to improve my diet and health and hopefully I won't be as sickly and will have more energy!

But I actually want to start something new - I want to train as a Nail Technician.

Since starting my blog 10 months ago I've really loved being more creative and looking after my nails - to the point of painting them daily and constantly looking at other nail websites/blogs.

I can't say I'm interested in false nails or even gel infils and all that...but I'm hoping it will be more interesting than I think it is.
But I really would love to be qualified and had some experience under my belt by the end of 2011!

The aim being maybe working for a company like Wah Nails or Nails Inc instead of just a little beauty salon that does a whole range of treatments.

I just feel with a company like Wah or Nails Inc I would be inspired daily and it would definitely be something to get up for in the morning.

I do realize and I'm not seeing these are my personal thoughts, but being a nail technician is seen as a 'simple' type of job...which I don't love the thought of people thinking that about me but I really do want to push myself and be more creative than applying false nails and painting them neon pink daily!
I'm not saying I want to be as amazing as Sophy Robson but I would love to have a job as creative.

Ofcourse I need to go on a night course...probably a City & Guilds one and I think maybe creating a portfolio would be a good idea (I'm not sure if this is the done thing though).

...and basically work hard!

I feel really great at the idea of a career change into something more creative and fun!

Would love to hear if your changing anything in the new year!

  2. Wow, this is amazing! It's so good you're doing something you love! I finally bit the bullet and applied for uni too, hopefully that means in 2011 i'll be leaving boring office jobs and going to study as a Mental Health Nurse! Finally doing something i'd want to wake up for every morning!

I really hope you gain the experience you need and get the job in Wah or Nails Inc. i'm looking forward to seeing your journey recorded on here! :)

    Happy New Year!

  7. good luck on your plans! i think that if you have a passion, then GO FOR IT! at the end of the day, you'd be much happier if you were doing something you loved even if people think it's a "simple" job. who cares what others think?

as for this year, well... i still want to be a performer, that's plan a. but i'm really thinking of going to school for makeup and start freelancing on the side. performing is not a stable job so it would be good to have something else to do on those quieter months.

happy new year to you, fee! :)

  19. I did a nail course and I really enjoy doing gel nails. I don't think it's too difficult (theory)I never went and worked in a nail salon but I do have experience as a hairdresser and I think being good with people is key as well as being passionate. I think the more you get into it the more you will love it and there is nothing better than loving your job. I hope you enjoy learning nails x

  24. Go for it! I think it is too easy to get bogged down in "real" life and never realise our dreams. I posted the photos of my cousins wedding yesterday and spent the evening fielding calls from relatives in Ireland crying and saying how over whelmed they were by the pics and I cant tell you how made up I am. It has made me determined to actually make the effort to get more photography work in 2011 - I would love to do more weddings but the stress of getting it all right, with only one chance scares the cr*p out of me!!

  25. Go for it! Why not contact Wah nails or similar and ask for advice about training? They may be able to recommend the best courses and career path if that's your end goal.

  28. I would love for you to do a video tutorial on how you do the leopard print and the bows?

How do you do them on your other hand if you're right handed?

    xx

  29. I have been thinking of doing the same! I have really developed a love of all things nail related in the last year. Where are you thinking of training? I've looked at CND courses and OPI but really have no idea where to start!

Good luck, I'm sure you will do well :)

  30. You clearly have a talent for it! I wish you all the best. I don't do resolutions at New Year as a set thing but I am making a big effort to follow my creative dreams, so I love that you are also doing this x
